On Friday, Apple released a new update for iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks. Although the update includes a few minor changes, the company announced that these changes are critically important in terms of the security of your devices. The updates, iOS 16.4.1 and iPadOS 16.4.1 should be installed as soon as possible to protect your devices. Here are the details about the iOS 16.4.1 and iPadOS 16.4.1 update…
iOS and iPadOS 16.4.1 brings important critical improvements
We know that Apple released the iOS 16.4 update in September with a lot of features, including new Emojis, Web Push Notifications, and more. However, the latest version of the new update brings significant security improvements and bug fixes, according to release notes.
Apple released two security flaws, labeled CVE-2023-28206 and CVE-2023-28205, with the latest iOS and iPadOS 16.4.1 update. The update is now available for any iPhone that is running iOS 16. Here is the list:
- iPhone 8 and later, iPad Pro (all models), iPad Air 3rd generation and later, iPad 5th generation and later, and iPad mini 5th generation and later
According to release notes, a vulnerability of the 16.4.1 update is critically important because it allows a hacker to access your device by running malicious code. The other vulnerability affects the WebKit engine, and it allows a hacker to run bad code on your device.
The company explains, “An app may be able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited,” for the IOSurfaceAccelerator, and “Processing maliciously crafted web content may lead to arbitrary code execution. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited,” for the WebKit patch.
